Cannons at Whitehaven

I recently visited Whitehaven in Cumbria, mostly to recce the harbour wall for a future sea fishing visit but instead I spent a lot of time marvelling over these cannons. Also surprised to learn that some cheeky chappy during the American revolution sailed all the way to the port and spiked the guns....colonials! Oh well he got a pardon in 1999.

  1. That cheeky chappy would be John Paul Jones, captain of the USS Ranger and later a Rear Admiral in the Russian Navy. He was made a Chevalier by the French so he certainly got about!
