What is the best 28mm Zombie Post Apocalypse rule set?

Hi Chaps,

Can I ask what you fellows are using for modern post Apoc. type games? I am after a simple ruleset for 28mm games with my son or solo. I have FUBAR third edition and may just stick with this but the upcoming release of Warlords new sets is starting to interest me greatly.

The craft knives are out for a spot of modelling to create some 28mm buildings to go with the ones I already have, has anyone made a 28mm Hesco barrier or the move able concrete ones? I will post some pictures shortly of my new board which has been coming along slowly as real life keeps interrupting my hobby!

Keep Blogging chaps I need your ideas.

  1. I shall be curious to see what others suggest for the rule set as I have been looking for something similar. As for Hesco how about these:

  2. I really can't suggest any in I haven't found the one ruleset I like.

ATZ I haven't tried but have downloaded the free version of the rules (just the mechanics) and it seems table heavy for me.

I have tried Apocalypse Z not to my tastes more of a zombie squad vs humans squad type game rather than it being of a personal nature.

No More Room in Hell wasn't bad, I didn't really like the spawning rules in that one.

7ombietv I have but never got around to trying. I could never create the characters I wanted from the selection of types available. I am hoping there will be a zombie expansion to 7TV2e as its an awesome ruleset.

AKULA's A.R.S.E can be fun and are free so worth a try.

Good luck with sculpting those barriers. You can buy some though I think from Studio miniatures and a couple of other places to printed ones. Grekwood are doing some at some point.

    1. Thanks for the reply Simon-I feel the same way as yourself! Most of the sets have some good qualities but certainly do not tick all the boxes. For me the perfect set would be simple and with character progression similar to Frostgrave.
I will attempt some barriers over the next few days...they would feature in any scenario that tried to restrict the flow of people or vehicle movement.

  3. Although I don't have any experience with ATZ I do with other THW games. Although they are a little table heavy, they do have some god ideas, particularly for solo games.

In particular what are known as PEFs, and just the overall setup. Well worth looking at the free Chain Reaction rules even if you just cherry pick the bits you like.

  4. Zed or Alive is pretty good. But to be honest - its not about zombies, at least not man vs zombies. Its more about man vs man in the world overrun by zombies, and surviving in this world.

  6. So it's April 2020 and the apocalypse has arrived... What has been the results of your search? Did a set of solo zombie rules eventuate? I haven't found any yet so I'm working on adapting Rangers of Shadow Deep which has a great solo fantasy mechanic. Almost finished.
