Time and motion study

Hi Chaps,

Well the painting (of figure) vibe has gone. This happens now and again, maybe it is similar to writers block? I never worry about it because when I discover something of interest it comes back with a vengeance. It seems that the cause of my current malaise was actually attempting to paint (OK force) a battalion of 10mm infantry with artillery support. I have nothing against the smaller scales except that I felt no affinity for them and they looked crap.

I want to recognise and feel proud of every piece of metal or plastic that I slap paint on...not squint at a base of Khaki shrimps imagining that they are a group of men. OK the smaller scales win the whole range/ratio thing but at the end of the day a 10mm man can still shoot further than the edge of my table.....

So due to this slightly disappointing and deflating failure of an experiment I rummaged around for something other than a figure to paint. It was hello Africa (or Asia) and I took up a house brush (yes 1/4") and a few tester pots and got the whole smaller scale thing out of my system. The failure was all mine and small scales are great (honest)....hopefully that disclaimer will prevent arguments, hate mail or fatwa's.

The shop may look dishevelled but I can assure you that generally the third world produces far worse-it seems that a building never see's neither brush nor paint the day after it is built. The smart money would open a DIY store in those parts....I will find some pictures to back up my claims shortly!

keep blogging Chaps.

  2. All of that stuff is amazing - esp the first building. Where did the pick-up trucks come from?

    1. Thanks Mike, the building was £7.00 delivered from ebay and the Landrovers were 50p each from a boot sale...I stripped and repainted them...they are perfect for 28mm.

    2. Forgot to mention the vehicles are Corgi die cast and can be found all over very cheap....they used to make armoured cars and tanks as well.

    3. That building was a steal then, really looks the part! While the landrovers are just more proof I need to spend more time at car boot sales, you can never get too many 28mm (ish) cars!

  3. The old painting block often comes and goes, especially if you are not feeling the love for what you are working on, that said the buildings look great.

    1. Your absolutely right Michael, it is a chore to finish figures that you don't like. It killed my vibe!

  4. I've tried several times to paint figures under 20mm and inevitably gave up and threw them away! The only ones I was ever happy with were the Copplestone 18mm fantasy figures. Not trying any more "15" mm or below!

    1. Yes I absolutley feel the same Legatus! The modern 20mm figures look superb but even they seem to lack something for me....I too will not be venturing into the smaller scales ever again....maybe gamers love them but I loathe them.
