Flash removal-the right way

Just began to prepare my Russians last night. They are Revell figures but thouroughly horrible, the quality took a dip when they produced these fellows. I used the small candle and pin technique to rid the figures of a ton of flash....and it was very relaxing! The result was visible immediatley and now I am left with a couple of companies of Ivans to spray up and paint.

These figures have been coated in PVA and will get their undercoat in the next few days. If anyone has a Black Powder army in 20mm I would be grateful of a link as I cant settle for which period to start in....using plastic 20mm means for less than £20 one can rapidly build an army-my only problem now is that I seem to have a small mountain of unpainted plastics!

  1. Only a small mountain? You're not trying hard enough!
I must give the pin and candle business a try.

  3. hehe I will try harder to create a mountain...used the pin method for the first time and it was so much easier than using a knife! Also quicker and strangely relaxing.

  4. Black Powder - go for Marlbough/WSS/GNW figures from Zvezda, nice and easy to paint and look good as well.

  5. You cleaned them up really well, especially considering the abysmal problem with the flash on those figures.

Didn't you get a bit overwhelmed with the smell of burning plastic though ?

    Cheers,

    John

  6. Yes I started to see through time! The smell caused me to take a break for a few minutes. I am now going to look at the GNW Zvezda, I hope they do artillery, thanks chaps.

  7. Good grief!! I would have done 1 or 2 things with figures like that, No1 Got my mate Postie to clean them, with pathetic sobs and wails, of "I can't do it" No2 Chucked them in the bin and bought some other make. How the hell can the company who made them get away with selling them in that condition???
It looks like you made a good job on them though, well done!!

I think you were unlucky with the flash I thought Revel were generally good (flash free)

  9. What a pain in the neck, losing all the comments, luckily I've only lost a couple of comments from my last post.
You've certainly done a grand job in cleaning the figures up, but how disgusting that they think they can sell the figures in that condition!!!
